Samsung Galaxy S22 Devices : In-depth

The New Galaxy Devices from Samsung bring a refreshing change to the world of mobile technology. Sleek designs, in built s-pen support for one device, brighter displays and an even faster processor enabling really cool camera tricks.

DESIGN

For the Design, I’m really glad Samsung has implemented the phrase “if it aint broke don’t fix it”. Very reminiscent of last year’s flagships, the S21s, with improvements here and there.

With a Glass back and mental frames, they have a much more premium and classic look to them unlike the S21s that had a plastic backs, what we call glastic .

I personally like the new design, huge fan of the flat edges, making the devices feel fresh and great to hold in the hand.

The S22 is a compact device with a screen size of 6.1 inches whilst the S22 plus and S22 ultra have screen sizes of 6.6 inches and 6.8 inches. Don’t judge the S22 just yet, because Samsung has managed to pack more screen real estate into all it’s devices by shrinking the bezels even more.

They also have Samsung’s FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display whilst the S22 ultra has a QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with the ability to increase the refresh rate up to 120hz for a smoother scrolling experience.

Also with a new feature called Vision booster, the screens adjust to much the lighting around you

These devices come in different colors from black, white, pink Gold and green with exclusive colors (S22 & S22+ = cream, violet, graphite and Sky blue, whilst the S22 ultra gets Red, Burgundy, Graphite and Sky blue as well)

Camera

The New 50 megapixel main camera is the biggest new thing in terms of hardware for the S22 and S22+. Last year’s S21 had only a 12 megapixel main camera.

The S22 ultra however has a 108MP main camera with 3 other lens summing up to 4 rear cameras in total

The other cameras however pretty much still the same with the ultra wide still having a 12 megapixel sensor . The telephoto lens just have a few improvements mainly to the optical zoom range with the S22 ultra going up to 10x zoom.

With this we’re getting a New feature called Nightography basically improved Lowlight pictures and videos.

The front camera for the S22 and S22+ is 10MP whilst the S22 ultra packs a 40mp selfie camera

Battery and Performance

For a processor, the S22 lineup of devices are packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip, which brings general performance improvement with tasks like playing games. But also with tasks that rely on machine learning like camera features.

So far performance has been as smooth as you’d expect from Samsung flagships, with the cameras opening really quickly, games running smoothly and scrolling being very fluid

With a 5000mAh battery capacity for the S22 ultra, you’ll be able to go 2 full days on a single charge. The S22 and S22+ pack lesser batteries; 3600mAh and 4200mAh respectively.

SOFTWARE

The Galaxy S22 devices come pre installed with Samsung’s version of Android 12, the One UI 4.1 which is their adaption of the Material U design language for Android.

There are some new specific features available within specific apps on the devices.

For one - pictures taken within the Snapchat app look incredible as it makes use of the actual cameras this time around unlike previous devices relying on screen grabs.

We also get a new entertainment feature that’s available to only S22 Devices with the Google Duo app.

You do have to ability to watch videos, listen to music with another person whilst on a video call simultaneously with both people listening or watching the exact same thing.

Eco-System

Thanks to Samsung Dex, carrying any of the S22 devices equals carrying a powerful pc in your pocket. Simply connect your device via cable or wirelessly to a monitor, turn on dex and enter an entire pc experience.

You can also wirelessly charge your Samsung accessories either your watch 4 or your buds by placing them on the back of the S22 devices and turning on power share

All these devices work hand in hand to give you the entire Samsung Experience.

SUMMARY

The S22 devices are definitely an improvement to last year’s flagships; the Galaxy S21s despite the physical changes being subtle (on the S22 & S22+ side of things) - The ultra has finally replaced the Note line of devices.

These small changes all come together to give the S22s an obvious edge over previous devices. With a new processor, a better camera, exclusive device features and overall refreshing look.
